Guidelines

On this page, you will find a collection of current German guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses. For both patients and mental health care providers, we wish to enable a quick access to scientifically founded and practice-oriented information and decision aids for specific treatment situations.

The following collection is limited to the guidelines of the two highest classes S2 and S3. A complete collection with S1 guidelines can be found under www.awmf.de.

For some mental illnesses, there are currently not yet any German S2 or S3 guidelines available. As a supplement, we refer to the guidelines of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in Great Britain, which are in part used as a source for the development of German guidelines due to their scientific quality. Please note: Guidelines from other countries can only be applied to a limited degree due to the different health systems in Germany.

For some medical guidelines, there is also a patient-friendly version, a so-called patient guideline. However, this is not the case for all guidelines. As a supplement, we refer to high-quality and trustworthy health information and to the English-language NICE patient guidelines.
